Wrangling two kids into their seats at the back of a cargo bike, one at a time, lifted in from behind over a fixed rail, has been the single biggest complaint about passenger carriers like this. Tern solved it on the Clubhouse Gen 4 with a side rail that swings open on its own hinge, so both kids load and unload from the side instead of over the top. A double-action lock keeps that rail secured during the ride and still releases with one hand, so you can keep your other hand on your child the whole time.
The Clubhouse Gen 4 ships with two interchangeable rear bars: a Flat Bar for hauling cargo or seating one bigger kid, and a Child Seat Expansion Bar that mounts up to two compatible child seats for younger passengers. Add the Clubhouse Backrest and Seat Pads (sold separately) once your kids outgrow the car-seat stage, and the same aluminum frame keeps working instead of getting replaced as your family grows.
Anti-pinch design and extended side rails protect small hands during loading and while riding. The whole aluminum unit weighs 3.46 kg (7.6 lb) per set and measures 794 x 552 x 248 mm at maximum. It mounts to the GSD (Gen 1 through Gen 3), Quick Haul Long (Gen 1), and Orox (Gen 1), installing at the rear mounting position on GSD and Quick Haul Long, or the front position on Orox.
When the kids aren't riding, the Flat Bar turns the whole rear end into a cargo bay that fits a 600 x 400 mm Eurocrate for groceries, gear, or whatever the day requires, and vertical parking stays available as long as the Flat Bar is installed. The Clubhouse Gen 4 also serves as the mounting base for the Clubhouse Fort weather enclosure, so the same hardware that handles a sunny September school run can be weatherproofed for the ride home in November rain.
