The 2027 Riese & Müller Carrie2 is a compact front-box electric cargo bike built for the everyday family loop: school drop-off, the grocery run, and back home, without the car. It comes in two models, the new Carrie2 FAMILY and the configurable Carrie2 Vario, both powered by the Bosch Performance Line PX motor with up to 90 Nm of torque. At just 209 cm long, it gives you the front-bucket experience families love in a size that rides, parks and turns like a regular bike.

The new FAMILY model arrives ready to carry kids, made for parents who want to combine daycare, work and shopping in a single bike. The Carrie2 Vario lets you build the bike around your life, with a choice of kits, an optional Magura Integral Braking System (IBS) and an optional suspension dropper seatpost. Both models are available in the new Denim colour.

How is the Carrie2 different from a full-size front-bucket cargo bike?

The Carrie2 keeps the kids-up-front layout of a classic long-john cargo bike but shrinks it to a compact 209 cm overall length with a slimline box. That means easier parking, tighter turns and a bike you can actually store at home, while still carrying up to two children aged seven and under.

If you've ever loved the idea of a big front-box cargo bike but worried about wrestling it through bike lanes, apartment hallways or a crowded school drop-off zone, this is the answer. Twenty-inch wheels keep the centre of gravity low, which keeps the bike stable even when little passengers shift around. Your kids ride in front where you can see them, talk to them and point things out along the way.

Is the Carrie2 easy to get on and off?

Yes: the Carrie2 has a low, open step-through frame, so you step through it rather than swinging a leg over a loaded bike. One frame size fits riders from 1.50 m to 2.00 m tall thanks to an adjustable saddle and an angle- and height-adjustable stem, so both parents can share one bike.

That matters most at the moments that are hardest on a cargo bike: stopping at a crosswalk with a child on board, hopping off at the school gate, or loading groceries at the curb. The current generation also got a seat tube roughly 3 cm shorter, opening it up to riders from around 4'11". On the Carrie2 Vario, a suspension seatpost comes standard to take the sting out of potholes and rough pavement, and the optional suspension dropper seatpost goes one step further: it lowers the saddle at the push of a lever, so mounting and dismounting are noticeably easier when you're making frequent stops.

What's the difference between the Carrie2 FAMILY and the Carrie2 Vario?

The new Carrie2 FAMILY is the ready-to-ride family bike: Shimano Nexus 5-speed hub, Gates CDX belt drive, rigid seatpost, Bosch Purion 200 display, 545 Wh battery and the Family kit for carrying children, all included. The Carrie2 Vario is the configurable model, with the Enviolo Trekking stepless hub plus your choice of battery, kit, braking system and seatpost.

For 2027, the Carrie2 Vario pairs the Bosch Performance Line PX with the Enviolo Trekking continuously variable hub, which gives a 380% gear range with no fixed steps. You simply shift to whatever feels right, even while stopped at a red light with a full load, which is exactly when a traditional derailleur lets you down. You can then set the Vario up exactly how you'll use it: no kit, the Cargo kit for groceries and errands, the Family kit or Family kit Plus for kids, or the Dog kit for four-legged passengers.

Can the Carrie2 replace a car for school runs and groceries?

For most urban families, yes: the Carrie2 carries two young children or up to 80 kg on its loading surface, plus 27 kg on the rear carrier, with a 200 kg gross vehicle weight rating. That covers the daily school run, a full grocery shop and the trip to the park, all in one bike.

The collapsible Flex Box holds a regular drinks crate when folded and up to three when opened out, and a zipped door lets kids (or the family dog) climb in and out on their own. A weatherproof child cover is available to keep passengers dry on grey Canadian mornings, and Supernova lights front and rear keep you visible on darker commutes. Magura MT C hydraulic brakes come standard, and on the Vario the optional Magura Integral Braking System (IBS) adds even more safety and confidence when braking, particularly in stop-start traffic and with kids or cargo on board. Add an SR Suntour Mobie suspension fork and Schwalbe Motion tires, and you have a bike built to do the car's job five days a week.
