Moustache Lundi 27 Belt

The Moustache Lundi 27 Belt takes the same Bosch Hub Line motor and Smart System electronics as the Lundi 27 Chain and pairs them with the simplest possible drivetrain: a single-speed Gates carbon belt instead of a chain and gears. There's nothing to shift, nothing to derail, and nothing to lube. The belt connects directly to the Hub Line motor's rear sprocket, and four levels of pedal assist (Eco, Tour, Auto, and Turbo on the Purion 200 display) do the work a derailleur would otherwise handle, so climbing a gentle rise or pulling away from a stop is a matter of picking an assist level rather than picking a gear. An optional throttle can also be connected just below the Purion 200 display, letting you move under motor power alone when you want to, useful for getting rolling from a stop with a loaded rack. It's built for one very specific kind of rider: someone who wants a genuinely low-maintenance city bike and rides mostly flat to gently rolling terrain, not someone chasing steep, sustained hills.

That simplicity starts with the drivetrain itself. A Gates carbon belt (a 50-tooth front sprocket to a 20-tooth rear) replaces the chain entirely: it doesn't rust, never needs oil, won't leave grease marks on your pant leg, and lasts far longer than a standard chain under daily commuting use. Power comes from the same 45Nm Bosch Hub Line motor and 360Wh PowerTube battery used on the Lundi 27 Chain, built into the rear wheel for a light, quiet ride, with assistance tapering off at 32 km/h, the standard cutoff for power-assisted bicycles in Canada, and good for roughly 75km of real-world range on a single charge.

Comfort comes from a low step-through aluminum frame with swept-back handlebars and an upright riding position, built to make getting on and off in work clothes effortless rather than a production. A 40mm-travel suspension seatpost smooths out streetcar tracks and rough pavement, and an alloy fork keeps cable routing fully integrated for a clean look. Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes (180mm front, 160mm rear) and Schwalbe Super Moto-X tires (27.5x2.40 with reflective sidewalls) handle the mix of pavement, gravel paths, and potholes that come with real commuting, the same braking and tire setup as the Lundi 27 Chain.

City-readiness is built in: double-wall alloy mudguards, integrated front and rear lighting, and a Moustache alloy rear rack compatible with MIK HD and QL3 accessories and rated for child seats up to 27kg all come standard, with an optional Moustache front carrier for riders who need more cargo space. An ABUS lock, keyed alike with the battery lock so it's one less key to carry, adds security for anyone parking downtown.

The trade-off is the mirror image of the Chain's: where a geared drivetrain gives you more control over exactly how much resistance you're pedaling against, the Belt trades that for near-zero maintenance and total simplicity, at the cost of some flexibility on steeper or more varied terrain. A rider on flat to gently rolling routes, the kind of terrain most Canadian city commutes actually are, will barely notice the difference and will appreciate never touching a chain again.
